Chittagong city has a history of 1200 years and is the leading export and import hub in Bangladesh. A massive development program by the government is helping Chattogram become a commercial hub despite waterlogging and traffic congestion problems.
Many development projects are underway in Chittagong such as the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, the Mirsarai Economic Zone, the Karnaphuli Tunnel, the Cox's Bazar Rail Line, the Chattogram Port Bay Terminal, the Patenga Container Terminal, etc., worth more than Tk1 lakh crore.
The city will play a vital role in the growth of Bangladesh's economy in the coming decade. By 2031, the government is targeting a GDP of $1 trillion, and Chattogram is expected to contribute 30% of that.
Chittagong city is shaping up to be the leading exporting hub in the region. Looking ahead, the biggest growth in this city should come from RMG export growth and new investments. To achieve the full potential of this city more investment and social awareness is needed.
