From February, Bangladesh's apparel export to Europe will be much more efficient and cost-effective because a direct service is going to start from Chattogram port to Europe. According to the Chittagong Port Authority, the first ship is expected to depart on February 6.
In general, the clothing items from Bangladesh are shipped via feeder vessels to Europe through transhipment ports like Colombo, Port Kelang, or Singapore. From there, the mother vessel takes the goods to Europe.
From now on, cargo ships with exporting goods can sail directly from Chittagong port to Europe. Additionally, vessels will also arrive in port with empty containers, reducing lead times considerably.
40% Shipment Cost Reduction
It will take a ship just 16 days to reach Italy using this route, which now takes about 40 days due to the need to transit several transhipment ports. Shipment costs will be cut by 40%, according to businessmen and port officials in Chittagong.
At present, about 51% of all RMG trade products go to Europe, 25% to America, 20% to Asia and 4% to Canada.
